As an employer who is giving consideration to hiring people with disabilities, you have undoubtedly come across questions about the Americans with Disabilities Act, and learned about the various perks and incentives. APSE offers a range of resources to employers to assist in answering your questions and in providing you with practical information that can facilitate your efforts to develop a diversified workforce and long term supports. 

Forms:

The tax credit is available to businesses that have total revenues of $1,000,000 or less in the previous tax year or 30 or fewer full-time employees. The tax credit can be used to offset the cost of undertaking barrier removal and alterations to improve accessibility; providing accessible formats such as Braille, large print and audio tape; making available a sign language interpreter or a reader for customers or employees. 

The Federal Bonding Program serves as a job placement tool by guaranteeing to an employer the job honesty of “at-risk,” hard-to-place job applicants.The Federal Bonding Program issues fidelity bonds, which are business insurance policies that protect employers in case of theft, forgery, larceny, or embezzlement of money or property by an employee who is covered by the bond.

Section 503 prohibits federal contractors and subcontractors from discriminating in employment against individuals with disabilities (IWDs), and requires these employers to take affirmative action to recruit, hire, promote, and retain these individuals.

WOTC is a Federal tax credit available to employers who hire and retain veterans and individuals from other target groups with significant barriers to employment. Employers claim about $1 billion in tax credits each year under the WOTC program.
